By: Brother Khrystus Wallace, Senior Shepherd, Dare 2 Be Different International Victory Centre
Today, I started a two part sermon series titled, "Don't Stop Running! God is with you!"
Using 1st Samuel 18: 6 - 12, I focused the minds of our Dare 2 Be Different International Victory Centre Fellowship on the fact that we should NEVER GIVE UP, no matter what stones life may throw at us and stay humble when success and popularity start running us down..
I reminded my listeners that life is filled with lots of problems and issues. Aches and pains, family problems, work stresses, hatred, peer pressure, church folks and church confusion, unemployment, etc etc etc.
Using the story of KING SAUL and David, I was able to take my listeners back in time to what life was for King David as an outstanding youth, growing into one of the most popular people around and apply this story to 21st Century Living.
Let's look a bit at some of the information from the PowerPoint Presentation
David went out where ever Saul sent him, and behaved wisely. David was fully submitted to Saul, and sought to serve Saul wisely in every way. David knew that way to be blessed was to work hard to be a blessing to others and serve his master well. He would not undercut Saul's position or authority in anyway.
Where did Saul send David? Saul set him over the men of war. This is a remarkable position and promotion - a man not older than his young twenties is now a GENERAL in the army of Israel.
He was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul's servants. David quickly becomes popular, both among the people and among the leaders (Saul's Servants). This was not because David a YES MAN. David did not seek this popularity at all, and certainly did not depend on any of those carnal tools. David became popular because he was A MAN AFTER GOD'S OWN HEART and people could see the love, the wisdom and the peace of God in him.
But, David had just begun to be popular when the people of Israel start singing. SAUL has slain his thousands, and DAVID HIS TEN THOUSANDS. Both David and Saul knew David was more popular than Saul was.
When WOMEN sing and dance in your honour, you are popular. When it happens in all the cities of Israel, you are popular. This song was the number one HIT in Israel!
How did David react to this sudden popularity? He received it well because 1st Samuel 18:14 says of this period in David's life - AND DAVID BEHAVED WISELY IN ALL HIS WAYS, AND THE LORD WAS WITH HIM. In this environment of praise and popularity, David behaved wisely in all his ways and he remained HUMBLE.
