At the end of some email communication with Assistant Commissioner of Police Queeley quite recently, his email signature read, SUCCESS REQUIRES PREPARATION!
Since then, I've been thinking - ohhhh how true that saying is and I certainly would aim to better prepare myself for future challenges and successes.
On that note, it is my view that the closure of The St. Kitts - Nevis Sugar Industry wasn't well planned at all! We were promised from the mouth of our beloved Prime Minister Dr. The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas that it would close over his dead body. Interestingly enough though, he is still ALIVE, but it is closed.
Let's not go any further with that part though. Any forward thinking leader and forward thinking administration and forward thinking advisers would have asked some very critical questions before officially closing the industry.
1. What are we going to do with the sugar workers?
2. What are we going to do with the sugar lands?
3. How are we going to honestly help the former sugar workers adjust properly into a 21st century society? I won't touch on the S.I.D.F and what it was initially intended to do in this article - probably another.
4. How are we going to ensure the become computer literate so they could stay up to date?
Many years after, on much of the sugar cane lands still, we still have overgrown sugar cane plants sitting idly by when our fruit and vegetable food import bill is sky high.
Let me end here before I get ANGRIER - who really cares about the poor? Who really cares about the working class?
The SUCCESS of ANY NATION REQUIRES PROPER AND AMPLE PREPARATION!
