Just before the word, our youths sang lustily,

We are a chosen generation
Called forth to show His excellence
All I require for life; God has given me
And I know who I am
(Repeat)
I know who God says I am; What He says I am
Where He says am at; I know who I am
(Repeat)
I’m working in power, I’m working miracles
I live a life of favor, Cause I know who I am
(Repeat)

Sermon Title: The Believer's Conduct

Scripture: Ephesians 4: 17 - 32

Introduction: No one is perfect! We all sin in WORD, THOUGHT AND DEED! If ever ANYONE tells you that they are perfect - RUN! RUN FAR and do not associate with them at all. They are lying. WE  ALL HAVE  FLAWS and God still has to do a lot of work on us daily.

Today, as we look into God's word, we will get a guide as to how EVERY  BELIEVER  IN  GOD  IS  TO  CONDUCT  HIS  OR  HERSELF. Some of us are on the right part, and others, including me, have to aim to pull up our socks and do MUCH  BETTER.

Some of us have to go and say SORRY to others and promise GOD that we are going to do better.

The question as to how believers should behave always seems to boggle the minds of NEW  BELIEVERS or NEW  AND  YOUTH  CHRISTIANS. How should they really behave after Salvation? Today, as we search through Paul's writings to the church at Ephesus, we'll draw from these verses a guideline for how BELIEVERS are to Conduct Themselves.

While this particular scripture just gives us a few instructions on how to live, and not all, we are challenged to take heed and follow.

In the verses read, we will be talking about THE  BELIEVER'S  CONDUCT. By this we mean his behaviour or the way he / she conducts his/her life.

POINT  1: THE  BELIEVER  NEEDS  TO  HAVE  PROPER CONTROL  OF  HIS  TONGUE.

A. The tongue is the most difficult member of the body to control. (James 5: 3- 8)

1. One of the most common problems in our churches, schools, work places today is GOSSIP. The dictionary defines gossip as "easy or unrestrained talk or writing about a person or social incident, idle talk, groundless rumour.

We need to pay serious attention to this problem, because it is a very destructive practice, and none of us is immune to it. We can't stop it, but we can aim to stay far away from it because it can DESTROY  OTHERS. Therefore, everyone of us need to search our own hearts before the LORD.

2. When the tongue is wild, the whole body is directed that way. (James 3:6)

The tongue is the steering mechanism of the body. (James 3: 4 - 5)

B. How can we bring the tongue under proper control?

1. Pray about matters before engaging in useless and destructive GOSSIP and RUMOUR  SPREADING. (Psalm 141:3)

When we engage in GOSSIP and RUMOUR SPREADING, when ever the real truth is told, many times we end up feeling GUILTY for life, especially if we were engaged in trying to tear people down and rip their name apart. Those that gossiped about Jesus and brought him to the crucifixion point, it was only AFTER, they started confessing and feeling guilty as they said - TRULY  THIS  MAN  WAS  THE  SON  OF  GOD.

Before we gossip with others, we SHOULD  PRAY. Note well, those that GOSSIP  WITH  YOU will GOSSIP about you! Many times someone who starts gossiping with you about someone else, will quickly go and tell the person that YOU said this and said that. Before you talk to OTHERS - PRAY  AND  TALK  TO  GOD. Don't just talk and talk and talk to ANYONE about your confidential business unless you FULLY TRUST  THEM or they may end up using it against you and spreading your name.

2. Obey Romans 12: 1- 2

3. Follow the advice given by David in Psalms 34: 13

4. Practice using your tongue to BUILD  UP  INSTEAD  OF  BREAKING  DOWN. (Proverbs 8: 5 - 9 and Ephesians 4:29)

5. Look to scriptures that give guidance on speaking (Psalms 49: 3 and Titus 3:2)
